Has it really been 8 years?

I started shooting weddings in 2005-2006 after I graduated from college. During my last years studying photojournalism at UNC, I already knew that a career in journalism wasn’t where I was headed (for many reasons we won’t get into hereā€¦). I was lucky enough to find weddings (thanks to working with the very talented, Missy Mclamb while finishing up school) and never looked back.

I’ve now been shooting weddings in Asheville for 8 years now but it wasn’t until recently that several past clients contacted me about catching up and photographing their growing families. I’ve had the privilege of following up with 4 of my past wedding clients just this summer and have two more scheduled for this fall. It’s so funny to me because they all seemingly started contacting me around the same time. Must be that magic 8 year mark? Whatever it is, I’m loving it.

Being a part of someone’s wedding day really is a special privilege. You create a relationship almost instantaneously and are allowed a front row seat into a very intimate moment in time, generally reserved only for closest friends and family. I’ve had the honor of documenting these moments for eight years now and hope to continue for as long as I am physically capable. I’ve worked with some of the best clients you could ever hope for and am infinitely thankful. I’m so appreciative not only that they believed in my abilities in my early years, but also that they thought to call on me later when they needed a family photographer. My cup runneth over.

Here are some highlights from my two most recent follow up shoots. First, Lindsay and Dan and little Elsie. These two were married in Charlotte on Nov. 18, 2006, making them some of my very first wedding clients. I wasn’t even a full time photographer at the time yet (my first year full time was 2007). I recently met up with Lindsay and Dan in their Charlotte home for the first time since their wedding day and met their beautiful daughter, Elsie. Below are some of my favorites from our session:

Elsie just loved being outside!

And here are a few from another recent follow up shoot (below). Jessica and John were married on Sept. 19, 2009 at the Wild Hare in Black Mountain. They had just bought their home in Asheville at the time. Five years later, I visited that home and met little Andrew. Andrew absolutely loved the camera! Here are a few of my favorites:

Here’s to 8 great years of documenting love! Thank you so much to all my fantastic clients. I am so grateful that you have given me, and continue to give me the opportunity to do what I love for a living.
