Ashley and Jim at Bald Head Island

This is a pretty cool post for me. Ten years ago, I started documenting wedding days. I went to school for journalism and knew before I even graduated that I didn’t want to work for a newspaper. I didn’t want to document tragedy. I wanted to document love and the beautiful things in life. Of course that led me to weddings! It’s not always easy and in these ten years I’ve certainly had moments of burn out in my career, even moments where being surrounded by so much love makes me feel sad about being single but something always brings me back. Recently I went on a trip to India and rediscovered my initial love of photography through travel. After working extra hard photographing weddings to fund my trip I didn’t even know if I would use my camera (or want to) when I got there. I was so wrong. I wanted to document everything I saw because it was beautiful!!! It was what Oprah calls an “aha” moment for me. I LOVE MY JOB. I truly feel a passion to document and celebrate love! This wedding made me feel like I was coming full circle and my passion for my career has never been greater!

So back to Jim and Ashley! 6 years ago, I photographed Ashley’s sister Shay’s wedding on Bald Head Island and this was the first wedding that I ever blogged. Over the past 6 years, I’ve blogged every wedding that I’ve shot (with the exception of a couple very small elopements) so it’s really cool to post photos of Shay and Drew’s little boy now and see their family again, this time to celebrate the love of Ashley and Jim (who couldn’t be more adorable!). Ashley was such a sweet and beautiful bride. I was so glad that the weather worked out so lovely for them because the weeks prior we had endless rain and hurricanes. The Island was slightly flooded in spots, but it was a GORGEOUS day on the beach- just like the day ¬†Shay and Drew were married. Guests got to have a true weekend getaway and Bald Head Island is the perfect place for that! There are no cars on the island so everyone rides golf carts everywhere and it truly feels like you’re “getting away from it all” here. I’ll let the photos tell the story from here:

Reverend Jim Brown (who was also the officiant for Drew and Shay’s wedding 6 years ago)

The bride found a sand dollar (above) like 5 minutes after the ceremony while we were taking photos! If that isn’t a good omen, I don’t know what is! Flowers by Lyn Moser

Big Congratulations to Ashley and Jim!! Wishing you so much more love and happiness for all the years to come!
